Carina: historical romance is my favorite romance genre so I thought I would post a book by an author they call “one of the queens of historical romance.” Carina: The Shadow of the Wind is in my top favorite books I’ve ever read. It’s a gothic mystery set in Barcelona. A young boy finds a novel in a secret book hiding spot and loves it so much that he tries to find more books written by the author. Unfortunately, he learns that the other novels are being burned and he spends the next few years tracking down the person responsible. It’s not an easy read as there are lots of serious topics that are covered but it’s my favorite kind of mystery where every little detail is important and comes together at the very end. You didn’t think we would end this year without posting our favorite books did you? It was a mixed bag of reading for us this year but we ended up reading some amazing stuff. Have you read any of these? What were your favorites for the year? Sophie: The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin is an epic tale of overcoming loss and finding your true potential. Fantasy sagas written by women of color are few and far between, so I am very grateful to Jemisin for gifting us with this story that is unlike anything I’ve read before. One of my favorite literary aspects about this book is the use of second person - you can see this in the 3rd quote. It is a little jarring at first, but there is an epic reveal at the end - and it all makes sense. Rainy day at the @miamibookfair ! Great panels, books, empanadas, and flamingos! Today is the day! Happy Halloween 🎃 👻. Sophie: For our next spooky post, I reread one of my favorite Neil Gaiman novels, Neverwhere. This is the book I suggest to anyone who wants to read a Gaiman novel for the first time. It really shows how imaginative and humorous his writing is. Carina: 5 days to Halloween y’all! This was my first Sherlock Holmes Novel and it was a quick and entertaining read. There is a little spooky to it but it’s more mysterious than anything else. It’s really fun reading the interactions between Holmes and Watson. Holmes is kind of a jerk but in general a good guy. And Watson is a loyal friend. Anyone who enjoys mystery should read this. For the next week we will take you on a ride of some books and even a bingo, to kick off the holiday season 🎃👻 From the Quote this Book team to you, we wish you all the best reads from now until the end of the year. Sophie: A perfect book to read for spooky season 💀💀💀 Nona is the third book in the Locked Tomb series about space necromancers. Each book is from the POV of a different main character and each character has varying levels of understanding over the world they live in. It’s always so interesting, as the reader, to get more clarity over their post-apocalyptic universe with every book. Nona is the main character of this book and has a refreshingly childlike perspective on a very dark and dismal world that makes it a joy to read. I highly recommend!!! Can’t wait for the last book! ❤️💀☠️🖤 I have so many questions that need to be answered! #nonatheninth #tamsynmuir #lockedtombseries #spookybook #halloweenbook 2022 Quote this Book Beach Retreat!!!!
