The Grand NYC Dessert Walking Tour

My sister and I both love desserts, so for her birthday, I planned out a dessert walking tour in New York City! I couldn’t find anything like this online, so I made my own from well-known NYC dessert stops all within walking distance. She said it was a great way to spend her birthday!

Tips:

  • The total walking time is 38 minutes, but we took about three hours. Wear comfortable shoes!
  • Order one or two things at each place to share with the group (we got full fast!)
  • Many of the places didn’t have indoor seating, so this is best in nice weather for eating outside

This was our walking path and stops (see map below):

RUBIROSA

235 Mulberry Street

We chose to have a light lunch first since we were a group of six people, and not everyone is as into desserts as my sister and I. The tour has a lot of stops, so I would recommend eating one slice at most! My favorite Rubirosa recs (also worth going outside of the dessert tour) are their Tie-dye or Vodka pizzas!

LEVAIN BAKERY – NOHO

340 Lafayette Street

Levain cookies are famous across NYC and with good reason! They are large, warm, and gooey. The store was packed when we got there, and there were people constantly coming in and filling up small space. We ordered their famous walnut chocolate chip cookies, two-chip chocolate chip, and a seasonal pumpkin cookie. We all agreed the classics were best!

MOLLY’S CUPCAKES

228 Bleecker Street

Molly’s Cupcakes had a cute interior (swing chairs!) and was the most spacious place to sit down. We enjoyed our cupcakes at a table and had fun checking out the books on the shelves behind us.

They offer vegan cupcakes and ugly duckling deals, which are cheaper deals for not-as-pretty cupcakes. You can even DIY your own cupcake! We ordered the following flavors: s’mores, red velvet, cake batter, and vegan vanilla with chocolate icing.

THE DOUGHNUT PROJECT

10 Morton Street

The Doughnut Project is in a small location with many appealing and unusual flavor choices. A handful of people came in while we were there, but some of the flavors were already sold out in the early afternoon.

We ordered the cinnamon roll doughnut to share between all of us (probably recommend doing that since the beginning). It was absolutely delicious, and I definitely want to go back to try other flavors. There was no space to eat inside, so we shared our group doughnut standing outside on the quiet sidewalk.

MILK BAR WEST VILLAGE

74 Christopher Street

Milk Bar is famous outside of NYC, so my sister had already enjoyed it in the past. They’re known for their milkshakes, soft serve, and cakes. Since we were getting full at this time, my sister got some of the birthday cake truffles, one of her favorites and very appropriate. We were able to enjoy them the next day!

MAGNOLIA BAKERY

401 West 11th Street

I’ve enjoyed their cupcakes before, but apparently Magnolia Bakery is known for having some of the best banana pudding! The line went out the door, and the inside was packed, so we had some time to look at the options. We decided to go with the classic banana pudding flavor, and we ate it outside on a bench at the little park.

This was the birthday girl’s favorite! Honestly, the photo doesn’t do it justice.

AMPLE HILLS CHELSEA

141 8th Avenue

At this point, everyone was too full of desserts to continue, and we ended up at the Chelsea Market and the High Line for a nice walk. The tour ended at Ample Hills, which we will save for another time.

My all-time favorite is their ooey gooey butter cake flavor, but they also have non-dairy options and plenty of great flavors for a hot day in NYC. You can try to fit this in or swap it for something else on your walking tour!

We all voted on our number one dessert! Our favorites:

  • Mine: Cinnamon Roll Doughnut
  • Birthday Sister: S’mores Cupcake
  • My Husband: Banana Pudding
  • My Mom: S’mores Cupcake
  • My Younger Sister: Banana Pudding
  • Birthday Sister’s Boyfriend: Chocolate Chip Cookie

In conclusion, the Grand NYC Dessert Walking Tour has something for everyone!
